Final Statement
To Dust
This short film is a documentation of the process in which I have created a clay representation of Greenman, the iconic protector of the forests and symbol of the cycle of life. Greenman is as old as history, and despite its association with pagan imagery, was often placed next to images of Christ because of its strong message of resurrection.
By my hand, the accumulation of water will rapidly kill the object that I crafted.
All one can do is watch, while searching for the brief glimmer of something permanant and still.

Mid-process
I spent for. ev. ver. trying to visualize some sort of cohesive narrative for this idea of accumulating water. I have been reading a bit about Andrew Goldsworthy, and his time-sensitive sculptures. I've been wanting to experiment in that kind of process for awhile but until now, had no real inspiration.
I wanted to make a sculpture that would die, in a way.
I chose to use clay is because clay holds that kind of symbolic power, the ability to be formed and destroyed.
I chose to use the image of Greenman to directly represent an icon of resurrection.
This project would be an experiment with my relationship with material and my actions.

Accumulation
Accumulative sculpture is a personal struggle for me.
What do I accumulate? A lot of things. Most things are thoughts. Fluid, can't hold em still.
What accumulates around me? Shortly after this project was assigned, Lady Irene came to parade through. I woke up to a pitter pattering drip dropping from the ceiling to the flooring. However, while my visit with Irene was polite at most, it was raging bitch outside. My boyfriend's house was under 2ft of water and the entire house was evacuated. The structure continues to be uninhabitable until further notice.
All I can think about is water.
